TOKYO – (JCN Newswire – Fujitsu today revealed that Rui Machida of the Fujitsu RedWave Women’s Basketball Team has signed a contract to play for the Washington Mystics, a member of Women’s National Basketball Association.
Machida joined Fujitsu RedWave in 2011 and has been a key player in the Women’s Japan Basketball League as well as the All-Japan Basketball Championship. She has also won many individual titles. Machida was a member the Japan Women’s National Basketball Team, which participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She was awarded the All-Star-Five title by International Basketball Federation (FIBA), in recognition of her contribution to the team’s winning silver medal.
Machida’s deal with Washington Mystics is expected have a positive impact on her career as well as the Japanese basketball world.
Machida will play as a Fujitsu RedWave member until the end of the 23rd Women’s Japan Basketball League Season. After some preparation, Machida will transfer to America. Machida will continue to play in the WNBA season May through September 2022 as a Washington Mystics player, but will return to Japan after the season ends to play for the Fujitsu RedWave. Fujitsu expects Machida to be a player who pursues challenges and serves as a role model for one Fujitsu core values.
