NY preps for staff shortage with health care vaccine mandate

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she is ready to call in retired National Guard members and medically trained National Guard members to address staffing shortages due to the approaching mandate for vaccines for health care workers.

Saturday’s plan was released by the Democrat to address what she called preventable staff shortages in hospitals and other healthcare facilities when the mandate goes into effect Monday.

Many health care workers still have not received the COVID-19 vaccination before the deadline.

This means that thousands of health care workers could be forced to quit their jobs next week. Hochul also announced that Pfizer booster shots would now be available in New York.
