Men’s Basketball Inks Emanuel Sharp to National Letter of Intent

HOUSTON – Award-winning Bishop McLaughlin Catholic School star guard Emanuel Sharp has joined the University of Houston Men’s Basketball program after signing a National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Wednesday.

Sharp, who is 6’4″ and 200 lbs, will compete as a freshman starting in 2022-23. Sharp has four years of eligibility. Sharp will join the Cougars for the semester break, December, and will be a redshirt for the Spring 2022 semester.

The native of Tampa (Fla.) was listed as a 4-star recruiting star by ESPN, Rivals, 247Sports, Rivals, and was the No. The ESPN100 ranked him as the 60th most popular player in the country. He was ranked as the No. ESPN ranked him No. 11 shooting guard. 18 by 247Sports, and at No. 20 by Rivals

Sharp played for his father, Head coach Derrick Sharp, at McLaughlin Catholic School. He was recruited by Texas Tech and Arizona, Clemson.

“I am really excited about Emanuel. Emanuel just has a knack for putting the biscuit in the basket. He can really score, but Emanuel is really good out of pick and rolls because he can pass. He has a lot of winner to him. He is going to be a terrific college player,”Sampson stated. “What he can do with the basketball in scoring, you cannot teach. We like to recruit as many good offensive players as we can and then teach them how to play in our culture and our system defensively.”

Sharp, a junior in 2020-21 was named Florida Class 3A Player Of The Year after leading the Hurricanes’ first state championship appearance. Sharp scored 33 points, 16 of which were for his team.

He averaged 31.9 points per game to rank among the nation’s Top-20 leaders  and was named the Florida Class 5A State Player of the Year at Blake High School as a sophomore following the 2019-20 season.

“Emanuel has a winning attitude and confidence. He is just tough and competitive, and those are some of his advantages as a player,” Derrick Sharp said. “Away from the court, he is pretty laid back. He has a small circle of friends and is very loyal to them.”
