Lady M x Baccarat food truck at South Coast Plaza let’s them eat cake

New York City’s luxury confections brand, Lady M, decided to take cake on the road back in 2018. The time was right when Baccarat, a French luxury crystal producer, was looking for a creative and innovative way to share its crystal tableware with a wider market. The two teamed up to create the Lady M x Baccarat Cake Truck, which serves Lady M’s signature Mille Crêpes on Baccarat crystal plates.

The fancy food truck arrived at South Coast Plaza, near the Macy’s Mens store, on Thursday for a three-day visit that ends at 6 p.m. Saturday.

“We specialize in creating a luxury cake that has a luxury experience with it,”Alvarez Symonette, Chief of Staff at Lady M Confections, said the following: “The majority of the cakes we make have 20 layers of handmade crepes and each of those cakes will also have flavored pastry cream made with natural ingredients.”

Lady M Confections has had a long relationship to Baccarat since the opening of its flagship Lady M store in Manhattan. Ken Romaniszyn was the first to install Baccarat chandeliers. The truck features Baccarat chandeliers, sconces, and custom artwork by Kurt Wenner. Kurt Wenner’s 3D artist Kurt Wenner painted side-by-side, showing French bakers assembling cakes.

“He is famous for doing 3D design around the world so we said, let’s go with the best,”Symonette.

Lady M’s desserts, like the new Strawberry Swirl Mille Crêpes, are served on Baccarat tableware and beverages are offered up in their crystal barware. You can enjoy them at the truck’s cafe-style seating.

“For us it is all about providing exceptional experiences for our guests,”Debra Gunn downing, executive director marketing at South Coast Plaza, said the above statement. “We have two luxury brands coming together to create this great experience.”

Simmons stated that South Coast Plaza was interested to host the truck at its inception. However, the COVID pandemic delayed it.

“South Coast Plaza was one of the first people we had promised this cake truck to,”Simmons. “They literally waited almost three years.”

“It finally came to fruition,”Downing said: “And we are happy to have the first West Coast appearance of the truck.”

The Baccarat boutique in the mall offers complimentary champagne. The event also highlights Baccarat’s expanded partnership with Harvesters, an organization of women that raises funds and awareness to end hunger in Orange County. Baccarat hosted Harvesters’ members at the boutique and made a 20% donation for Harvesters on all purchases.
