Is Howard the Duck Getting a Disney+ Animated Series After Being Canceled at Hulu?

Marvel heroes are my favorite. Howard the DuckHis on-screen appearances are some of the most bizarre. He was the first Marvel character to have his own big-screen movie in 1986. The George Lucas produced disaster almost sank the Marvel bandwagon. “comic book movie”Before it was even started. Howard was still a popular character written form and the movie became a true cult favorite. He was then featured in the animated Guardians of the Galaxy series. Then, he appeared in a post credit scene appearance in the live-action Guardians of the Galaxy movie. It caught everyone off guard. Everyone wanted to know when the wise-cracking detective duck would make his next appearance.

It seems that the roles of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Endgame are now in danger of being missed. A number of appearances in What If and Avengers: Endgame have suggested that Howard may be getting another chance at the big-time with his animated series. CBR.com reports that this is a rumor. However, with Howard the Duck making more of his presence in the MCU, there have been more ambiguous rumors.

An anonymous 4Chan user suggested Disney are creating a Howard cartoon under Marvel Studios Animation. It would see Seth Green back to voice the ex-Duckworld resident. These rumors are not uncommon and can go on for quite a while without being confirmed. However, a source claims that the official reveal will take place during Disney+ Day on November 12th. The release date of 2024 will also taken into account. A number of new announcements are expected to be made during Disney+ Day. Marvel is likely to be prominent in that. If these whispers are true, it is odd for the source to provide such specific details about the date.

This isn’t the first time Howard the Duck animated TV program has been mentioned. Hulu announced that Howard the Duck was a part of its animated Marvel slate, which also featured M.O.D.O.K. Hit-Monkey (which did get released), Tigra & Dazzler (which also got released), and The Offenders, which brought together all of these crazy characters in a miniseries. Howard the Duck was placed on the back burner along with Tigra & Dazzler, and The Offenders. These three animated projects were announced dead in January 2020. Will Howard the Duck be rehabilitated for Disney+? This rumor will have to wait until Disney+ Day.

Here’s a brief history for those who haven’t yet hopped on the Howard train. Howard made his Marvel debut with Adventure into Fear #19 in 1973. The bad-tempered creations of Steve Gerber, Val Mayerik, and Howard went on to appear regularly in stories that saw him trapped on Earth. This was something he didn’t want. Howard’s comics were satirical in nature, which saw him cross into a number other Marvel franchises. A notable one at the moment is She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Marvel Zombies, and X-Men. Howard getting his own series is not unlikely considering that many of these properties are front and center in the future MCU.

Green recently shared some information about James Gunn’s upcoming third Guardians of the Galaxy film, including that he wasn’t sure if Howard would be included. “I don’t know if Howard’s a part of it,”In a recent interview, he stated the following. “I haven’t heard anything about that. The only thing I know is that it’s the girls’ story, it’s the sisters’ story, that it’s Gamora and Nebula’s story. So I don’t know if it’s a prequel, or if it comes off in the new timeline that’s splintered post-the Time Heist. Honestly, I don’t know anything about it.”Some would argue that he protests a bit too much.

We will find out on Disney+ Day, November 12th, whether we get more Howard from the MCU when it comes to Howard-centric series.
