DOH News Release: Hawai‘i Department of Health approves third medical cannabis retail dispensary for Maui Grown Therapies

WAILUKU – The Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) has issued a formal notice to Maui Wellness Group, LLC dba Maui Grown Therapies (MGT) that authorizes the company to open its third retail store. The retail store will open in Pukalani, at 7 Aewa Place in Makawao. It is expected to start sales on March 25. After MGT had completed its final inspection of the retail store, the formal notice was issued.
“Maui Grown Therapies’ new dispensary will improve access to patients in upcountry Maui,”Michele Nakata, Program manager, Office of Medical Cannabis Control and Regulation, said.
As of February 28, 2022 there were 34126 in-state residents and 2,738 caregivers registered statewide. This includes 6,514 patients on Maui and 595 caregivers. Severe pain is the most common condition reported by adult patients. Children under 18 years old are most likely to have seizures or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Registered patients and caregivers may purchase upto four ounces of medical marijuana in a 15-consecutive days period. A maximum of eight ounces can be purchased over a 30-consecutive days. After purchasing medical cannabis from a dispensary it must be sealed and not visible to the general public.
Medical cannabis must only be used on private property. It cannot be used at work, at home, on the beach, on hiking trails or in any other public place. It is illegal to possess or use medical cannabis on federally-owned property, such as military installations or national parks.
