‘Coming Soon’: Sandwich Shop Opening on East Franklin Street

A particular space on Franklin Street once was Pepper’s, used to be Waffle House and sometime soon — potentially as early as summer 2022 — will become a sandwich shop catering to anyone with a hankering for a cheesesteak.

127 East Franklin Street will soon be home to a Chapel Hill franchise sandwich shop chain. Capriotti’sIn the near future, the new location will open for business and begin distributing subs. There’s not too much in the way of official announcements or social media buzz just yet, but a walk down Franklin confirms the new location.

“Founded in 1976 in Wilmington, Delaware by siblings Lois and Alan Margolet, Capriotti’s was born from a desire to create something unique while honoring family heritage. To this day the whole roast turkeys, quality meats & cheeses, and fresh rolls and produce continue to impress our patrons and earn awards across the country.”

The Waffle house at 127 East Franklin Street was among many restaurants that were forced to close their doors permanently in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other nearby restaurants that closed in the Chapel Hill downtown were Ye Olde Waffle Shoppe, Lula’s fried chicken and Lotsa Stone Fired Pizza.
