Chase Young’s rehab time is unknown but his knee is ‘getting better every day’

Chase Young held a press conference with local reporters for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The second-year defensive end did not give a timeline for his recovery, but he did talk about how he is doing two months after the injury.

“I feel real good,” Young said. “I feel like my knees are getting better every day. So, definitely making great progress.”

“Right now I’m just going to be where my feet are at,”He continued, borrowing Ron Rivera’s most-used phrase. “Just take things one day at a time and just try to attack it with my best, day in and day out.”

Young was a refreshing sight to see again, even if it was only for a few minutes. His second year in the NFL didn’t match the production of his first — he admitted as much on Monday — but still, this is a guy that Washington is counting on in an enormous way. It was encouraging to see Young moving in the right direction, no matter how early it may be.

Young explained that he’s experienced more adverse events in his life outside of the field. Although it was difficult for Young to be forced to the sidelines, he isn’t worried about how he will overcome this particular obstacle.

“Trust me, I know that my knee can get back to 110%,”He said. “As long as it can get back to 110%, then that’s the only thing that I care about.”

Young did his best after being placed on injured reserve. Young used texting to send Rivera motivational messages before games. “Get money.”

Young was then asked to describe his relationship with Rivera at that point in his presser. Young’s response was positive, which was remarkable considering Rivera had publicly criticized Young for not being disciplined in the first half Washington’s schedule.

“Like I always say, he’s a dude,” Young said. “He’s always going to be 100% with you, straight shooter. That’s the type of guy I am. I feel like that’s why we do gel so well. I could go on and say more things about him but, he’s just a dude you get around and you’re just like, you feel good.”

Young was unable to make it to Washington’s post-bye turnaround. This stretch saw the club win four consecutive contests to return to.500. Young was proud of the accomplishments of his peers on that run.

“It was really just unbelievable,”He said.

Young’s Should Be Accepted rehabIf things go well over the next months, he’ll be in a position to be part of the success story in 2022. It was great to see him at the podium, but it will be even better to see him on the edge next season.
