Can You Help? NYS Has Major Need For Election Workers on 11/2

There is an election coming up in November and your local polling place needs workers more than ever. What are the requirements? They are looking for people who can be patient and help ensure that people can vote. 

In Ulster There are 82 polling stations in County that require people to work. In DutchessThere is a need to staff over 100 locations. This is a lot of people.

How do you apply to work at the polls? What are the requirements?

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • Although you will need to be registered to vote in order to do so, you don’t necessarily have to be a member or active in any political party.
  • You will need to take paid training.
  • You will need to have a valid photo-ID such as a drivers license or passport.
  • Voting polls are open from 6 AM to 9 PM. Do you have to work all day? It all depends on the specific site and the need.
  • You should be polite, friendly and willing to help others throughout your day.
  • The New York State Board of Elections states that if you are an existing Election Inspector, you must take part in the paid training at the least once per year.

    So, what other questions might you have? What is the pay? The pay per hour is $15 and the paid training is $60. To be able to claim it as income, you will need to complete a W-4 form.
