Do you remember when she was in a movie about zombies with Cousin Greg.

“People are gonna die.”

The High School Musical Star has not one, but TWO films headed to Netflix this weekend. They are the perfect combination to show how insane this woman’s career has been.

V doesn’t find it strange to dress up as a cow for a performance of a number originally sung by Idina.

First, we have The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the StarThe third in a trilogy on Netflix Christmas movies based off a Mark Twain book, “The Third,” where V. Hudge portrays three identical royal individuals.

The campy original was a hit and became a cult favorite that spawned two sequels. The plot is ridiculous and the characters she plays are named Lady Fiona Pembroke, Stacy Juliette De Novo Wyndham, Princess of Belgravia, and Lady Margaret Katherine Claire Delacourt, Queen of Montenaro. This should cover all the information you need.

She may be triple-headlining what is essentially a Hallmark Christmas movie but she also plays a prominent part in Lin Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut, the star-studded, Oscar-destined, director. Tick, Tick…Boom!

Semi-biographically, the film tells the story of Jonathan Larson (the playwright and composer of Rent). Hudgens plays a prominent singer in Larson’s company and one of his friends. Hudgens is at ease among the heavy-hitting cast. It sounds great on the cast album(which I have listened to almost 500 times already.

These two films, which are polar opposites, are just the tip if you look at V’s topsy-turvy life. She’s done so many weird projects she really deserves an Oscar.

Here are 15 hilariously chaotic, entertaining, and sometimes downright bizarre performances by the queen of chaos. Breaking Free.

1.

Bandslam (2009)

Van Redin/Summit Entertainment/Courtesy Everett Collection

To begin, let’s examine one of her early post-High School Musical films in which she teams up with fellow Disney Channel alum Aly Michalka (part of the incomparable pop duo Aly & AJ.) The film received positive reviews but failed to make it to the box office. It portrayed a love triangle between the two men as they prepare for the competition. Hudgens is never seen in a normal role. He plays a character named “Sa5m”This is how it is pronounced “Sam”Because the 5 is silent. Strangely, this film is also a tribute to David Bowie’s work. It features a cameo from the legend and happens to be his last film performance. The movie is a delight and makes sense when you look at Hudgens’s career, but it’s still a bit odd out of context.

Beastly (2010)

Takashi Seida / CBS Films/Courtesy Everett Collection

We all remember the time in the 2010s when Alex Pettyfer seemed to be THE hottest person alive. Beastly creators tried to sell us the cock-and-bull story about Alex Pettyfer being HIDEOUS because of his face tattoos ??????. He saves Lindy (Hudgens), from some drug dealers, and she miraculously discovers that he is hot! This is also the Olsen twins’ last film performance. Mary-Kate plays the witch who curses him. It may not have a rating of 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. But it’s definitely worth a rewatching with a few friends if your looking for a good time.

3.

Dog Days (2018)

Jacob Yacob/LD Entertainment/Courtesy Everett Collection

Remember Vanessa Hudgens’ role in an ensemble film all devoted to dogs, directed by Ken Marino (Stranger). She didn’t, but she is in the middle of a canine-crazed group of half-dozen love story stories. It’s a cute barista that was initially devoted to a veterinarian and then met a man who runs the shelter for dogs (I can sense a trend). It’s a cute little family film that features more four-legged friends than what you’ll see at Central Park’s dog park on Saturday mornings.

4.

Freaks of Nature (2015)

Jamie Trueblood/Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

So Cousin Greg, The newest TerminatorGabriella Montez, a woman, enters a bar. The bar is full of zombies and vampires. The bar is being attacked with aliens. Is this a very nerdy joke? Or is it the plot of this comedy-horror film where V plays a hot vampire called Lorelei. Despite the fact that it starred a few decently famous actors, the film received a very limited release. How did Hudgens land in this situation? We don’t know! It is a fun, bizarre film that she made from her bananas filmography.

5.

Gimme Shelter (2013)

Roadside Attractions/Courtesy Everett Collection

Without a Christian drama about a poor person in dire need of saving, no chaotic filmography would be complete. Hudgens’s version has her playing a homeless pregnant lady who finds hope in a Christian home that provides care for pregnant women. This film’s chaos is made worse by the most ridiculous wig ever seen on God’s green planet. Look at that picture. Edward Scissorhands fell asleep while driving. The film’s title refers to her character needing a place to sleep, but it could also refer to the fact 32 living species could be hiding under that wig without anyone knowing.

6.

Grease: Live (2016)

Kevin Estrada/Fox/Courtesy Everett Collection

Although Vanessa Hudgens is most well-known for High School Musical, which is, of course, a musical, I think the public forgets that she is also a theater actress. For goodness sakes she has been the leading lady in a Broadway show. It was no surprise that she was the star of Grease’s live show as Rizzo. Her father had died the day before the live show aired. This made it even more impressive. If you’re looking for a live musical to revisit, this one with its 92% Rotten Tomatoes score is it.

7.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Isle (2012)

Warner Bros. Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

Another film that left me a little bit puzzled. Warner Bros. Distributed 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth based on the Jules Verne novel and starring Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, and  Anita Briem. They released a sequel four year later, after the film was moderately well-received. In the midst of production chaos, Fraser and Briem were both expelled and Dwayne Johnson was brought in. Hudgens is now the star of a sequel to a movie in which she was not starring with the Rock. It’s a fun movie that did well at the box-office, but Vanessa Hudgens seems incapable to land a single role that makes sense.

It’s amazing! HBO Max

8.

Machete Kills (2013)

Open Road Films

This is the most outlandish Hudgens film. Let me try to explain. Danny Trejo portrays a character in Spy Kids named Machete. He is Carmen and Juni’s uncle, who gives them spy equipment to beat Floop. Spy Kids’s director Robert Rodriguez was filming a double-feature B-movie with Quentin Tarantino. They made a fake movie trailer about Machete. That fake trailer spawned an actual film, and Machete Kills is the sequel. Follow along? You’re following along? Weird. Weird. Weird. OH and Oscar winner Lady Gaga makes her film debut here.

It’s amazing! Netflix

9.

Powerless (2017)

NBC

Did you know that Vanessa Hudgens technically belongs to the DC universe? Yep! That’s right! Our girl was the star in a short-lived NBC sitcom about a group who work at Wayne Enterprises. Danny Pudi (She and Danny Pudi)CommunityThey play the roles of the lead characters as they attempt to create products that can help people living in a superhero world. DC is known for being more out-of the left-field than their Marvel counterparts. Unfortunately, this show didn’t connect with enough viewers to stay, but V deserves a good sitcom.

10.

Rent a place to live (2019)

Pamela Littky/Fox/Courtesy Everett Collection

As a big Rent fan and a PASSIONATE stan of the new Tick, Tick…Boom! It pains me deeply that I even mention the truly terrible live production of Rent. The cast (Jordan Fishers, Valentina, Tinashe), is outstanding, but I don’t believe everyone was properly cast. I love Vanessa Hudgens. However, I don’t think she was the right choice to play Idina Menzel when their voices are so different. Brennin Hunt (Roger), also breaks his ankle during dress rehearsal. This means that they are unable to do choreography live. They instead air mostly the low-energy dress rehearsal, with bits intercut showing Roger in a wheelchair doing nothing. The reunion with the original cast is also a disaster. A technical problem prevented many viewers from seeing the first five minute of the show because it wasn’t airing.

“Say OK”music video (2007)

This video is available on YouTube

youtube.comVia Hollywood Records

Let us now take a moment and remember Vanessa Hudgens’s short career as an artist. Despite the fact her entire career has been dominated musical performances, she only released her own music in the immediate aftermath High School Musical. Her debut album V included this kind of happy, but kind of sad bop. You can tell that Disney was milking the HSM energy for all its worth as Zac Efron stars in this music video along with her as the pair bowl, pour salt on fries, and text on slide phones. VERY 2006. Perfect time capsule that makes one wonder why she hasn’t released more music.

“Sneakernight”Music video (2008)

This video is available on YouTube

In 2008, Hudgens’s second album Identified comes out and the one and only single is “Sneakernight”This is both confusing and very logical. The song is all about dancing in sneakers (because “basically what we’re gonna do is dance”Ekko’s glowing sneakers are PROMINENTly featured in the product placement. I don’t know which came first, Ekko or the song, but 2008 is the real winner. fashion. The fedora. The sparkling tank top. The hoodies. The Ekko glowing shoes are also available. They are the stuff of legends. I can’t wait to see all these trends return in 2030. Personally, I am excited about the return of the plaid short. But maybe that’s just me.

13.

Spring Breakers (2012)

Annapurna Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

Tick, Tick…Boom! Hudgens has appeared in several prestigious awards circuit films. In 2012, she was joined by Selena Gomez & James Franco in this crime drama. It is about a group Florida spring break girls who are caught up in the criminal underground. V was a great friend and irresponsible character, which helped the movie stand out. Just when you think Hudgens only cares about silly music videos, dog movies, and druggies, she’s actually taking drugs in a bikini. And grabbing guns.

14.

Sucker Punch (2011)

Clay Enos/Warner Bros Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

We should not forget that Vanessa Hudgens also stars in this psychological action film for girls directed by Zack Snyder (of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut fame). Sucker Punch revolves around Babydoll (Emily Browning) who must venture through a variety of fantasy worlds to retrieve items that will help her escape the mental institute she’s been locked up in unjustly. Hudgens is one of the machine-gun-wielding members of her squad that she recruited to help her escape. Although the film received poor reviews and did poorly in theaters, it has since become a cult favorite for its innovative visuals. People are now rewatching this film with fewer pitchforks, as Snyder’s star continues to rise.

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody 2006-07

Disney Channel

And last but certainly not least, Vanessa Hudgens joined her HSM costars Monique Coleman and Ashley Tisdale on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody several times. She plays Maddie’s nervous friend Corrie from school. Remember the Disney Channel eras where all your favorite stars were appearing on each other’s shows. There were DCOMs, and music videos. Hudgens was right there. It was shocking to discover that she wasn’t there. Hannah Montana is living the perfect life! Oder the Disney Channel Games
